The first question that may have arisen for you is “Why are we talking about realigning our faith?” We don’t even have to look in the Bible to find examples of people who have strayed from their faith; we see it in our own lives with people we know. One of the key reasons we need to consider realigning our faith is stated in 2 Corinthians 13:5, “Examine yourselves, whether you be in the faith.” Paul was addressing a church that initially had strong faith, urging them to reassess and confirm that their faith was still authentic.
This is a personal question because this is you doing an examination. You are not being examined by anyone else. The examination is between you and the Holy Spirit to see how genuine your faith is. It is time to be honest with ourselves and with God because as we’re preparing to move into what I believe God has prepared for the body of Christ we need to have our faith aligned correctly because if not I’m going to tell you you’re prone to jump ship. I am striving to ensure that Redeeming Love Word Ministries, along with other individuals who wish to join and hear what I believe the Spirit of the Lord is saying, understand how to examine their faith and ensure its genuineness.
It’s important to check if our faith is still real. You may say my faith is real. I attend church, I give, I am helping others but remember attending church doesn’t guarantee genuine faith. When we first came to faith, it wasn’t about church attendance; it was about believing in the finished work of Jesus Christ for our salvation. We did not check boxes via our actions to authenticate our faith or relationship with God. We need to exercise caution, or over time we might start relying on our actions and routines, which can lead to legalism rather than true faith. To address this, I want to provide you with 15 biblical reasons why our faith may need realigning. These are not just opinions but grounded in scripture.
- Ensure Our Faith is Genuine
It’s crucial to examine whether our faith remains genuine. The Bible instructs us in 2 Corinthians 13:5 to “examine yourselves, whether you be in the faith.” This means regularly checking if our faith is still real and not just a routine or legalistic practice.
- Spiritual Checkup
Just as we have annual physical checkups to ensure our health, we need spiritual checkups. Our bodies are designed to fight off diseases, but sometimes our immune system can get contaminated. Similarly, our spiritual health can be compromised, and we need to examine ourselves to stay spiritually healthy.
- Avoid Spiritual Lethargy
God is preparing us for something significant, and we must not be spiritually lethargic. We need to engage actively in what God is doing and not become complacent in our faith.
- Recognize Backsliding
We can find examples in the Bible of people who backslid, and we know individuals in our lives who have done the same. It’s essential to realign our faith to ensure we don’t fall into the same pattern.
- Maintain Genuine Faith Over Legalism
When we first come to faith, it’s based on the finished work of Jesus Christ. Over time, we might start checking off boxes and fall into legalism. Realigning our faith helps us maintain genuine faith rather than just following religious routines.
- Spiritual Awareness
We need to be aware of our spiritual state just as we are aware of our physical health. This awareness helps us to stay vigilant and proactive in our faith journey.
- Addressing Spiritual Contamination
Just as our immune system can get contaminated, our spiritual life can also face contamination. Regular realignment helps us address and cleanse any spiritual impurities.
- Engaging in God’s Work
God has plans for us, and to be part of His work, we need to be spiritually active and engaged. Realigning our faith ensures we are ready and willing to participate in His plans.
- Avoiding Complacency
It’s easy to become complacent in our faith, thinking that attending church or following routines is enough. Realignment helps us avoid this trap and keeps our faith dynamic and alive.
- Ensuring Authentic Faith
Our faith should be based on the genuine belief in Jesus Christ’s finished work, not on our actions or routines. Realigning our faith helps us maintain this authenticity.
- Spiritual Growth
Realigning our faith encourages continuous spiritual growth. It helps us to keep moving forward and deepening our relationship with God.
- Overcoming Spiritual Challenges
Life presents various spiritual challenges, and realigning our faith equips us to face and overcome these challenges with strength and resilience.
- Strengthening Our Belief
Regularly examining and realigning our faith strengthens our belief and trust in God. It helps us to stay firm in our convictions.
- Encouraging Others
When we realign our faith, we set an example for others. Our actions can inspire and encourage those around us to also examine and strengthen their faith.
- Preparing for the Future
Realigning our faith prepares us for whatever the future holds. It ensures that we are spiritually ready to face any situation with confidence and trust in God.
Jesus asked His disciples, “Why are you so fearful? Why do you have no faith?” This question came after He had already told them, “Let us go to the other side.” When the storm arose, their fear of perishing overshadowed their belief in His words. Jesus wants us to believe Him, even when circumstances seem unbelievable.
No matter what, they were going to reach the other side, even if it meant becoming the first recorded submarine in Biblical history. This is the kind of unwavering faith God desires from us.
Consider this: God may tell you that a job is yours, but when you face rejection, do you still believe? Often, we lose faith and start to doubt. But then, unexpectedly, the opportunity comes back, proving that God’s word stands true.
We need to eliminate those areas of doubt in our lives. Just like when I was told that banks don’t loan money to churches, I believed we would succeed with or without their help. And we did.
God wants us to believe Him all the way, without limitations. We often say, “God can do anything but fail,” but do we truly believe it in every aspect of our lives? When faced with medical challenges, remember that while doctors practice medicine, God is the ultimate healer.
Prepare your faith before the storm hits. Strengthen your belief now, so when challenges arise, your faith remains unshaken. Trust in God’s promises and believe that He will see you through to the other side.
